About Saramago
José Saramago (1922–2010) was a Portuguese writer and winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1998. His work, translated into more than 60 languages, is one of the great monuments of contemporary literature.
He chose Lanzarote as his home after the controversy surrounding "The Gospel According to Jesus Christ" in Portugal. He lived in Tías until his death in 2010, and this house became his creative sanctuary and final home.
Today, A Casa José Saramago is a museum, a foundation and a living space dedicated to preserving and promoting his literary and humanist legacy.
